Jamie Kent Hamelburg
Managing Member
Jamie Kent Hamelburg, Managing Member of Hamelburg Law, has over 25 years of experience representing businesses and individuals. As a business lawyer, she advises clients on a broad variety of issues including start-up and choice of entity, acquisition and sale of businesses, employment, contractor and client agreements, operating agreements and bylaws, business disputes, and estate and succession planning. She also represents both lenders and borrowers in commercial loan transactions.
Jamie has developed a particular focus serving small businesses and helping them with the myriad issues they face. She has become a trusted advisor to hundreds of entrepreneurs as they navigate the start-up process. She regularly leads workshops for entrepreneurs on legal issues faced in the start-up and growth phases. Jamie is a past president of Women Business Owners of Montgomery County, and has served as a volunteer mentor for underrepresented businesses in Frederick County, Maryland through the Frederick County Office of Economic Development’s EmPOWER Mentorship Program. She is recognized as a business leader throughout Maryland and the greater Washington, DC area.
In addition to her business law work, Jamie also has a commercial real estate practice, where she assists in the purchase and sale of commercial real estate, drafts and reviews lease agreements, and handles landlord-tenant and other property disputes. She represents landlords ranging in size from large commercial property owners and managers to small store-fronts and one-unit residences, and also counsels tenants in commercial and residential matters. Since most business owners either own or lease commercial real estate, Jamie’s dual focus on business law and commercial real estate enables her to provide efficient, effective, and practical legal counsel for the firm’s clients. In recognition of her leadership role in the local real estate industry, she serves as the Co-Chair of the Real Estate Section of the Montgomery County Bar Association.
Jamie has earned the Super Lawyers® designation, which is based on peer recognition and professional achievement in the field of business law. This award is given to the top 5% of attorneys in the nation each year. She also has been consistently ranked as “superb” by avvo.com and has been rated as AV-Preeminent by her peers for the “highest level of professional excellence, skills, and integrity,” through Martindale-Hubbell.®
Jamie began her legal career by clerking for the Honorable Rudolph J. Gerber on the Arizona Court of Appeals. She then became an associate at McKenna & Cuneo (now Dentons), litigating before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Her practice there included complex contractual disputes arising from major federal procurements including the A-12 advanced tactical aircraft.
Jamie graduated from The University of Michigan Law School. Her undergraduate degree is from The State University of New York at Buffalo. She practices in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
